Professor Muthanna Samara is a Professor of Psychology at Kingston University London and an expert in Developmental Psychopathology. He leads the Developmental Psychology Research Group and serves as the Director of the Centre for Research in Communities, Identities, and Difference (CResCID). His research spans diverse areas, including school and sibling bullying, the psychological effects of prematurity, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among children affected by war and displacement.

With a Ph.D. from the University of Warwick, he has held research and teaching roles at Bristol, Warwick, and Kingston Universities. He has secured major research funding and led projects on cyberbullying, PTSD, prematurity, and virtual reality (VR) interventions.

A Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (AFBPsS), he has published extensively and sits on editorial boards for leading journals. He has received multiple teaching and research awards, including Kingston University’s Teaching Excellence Award and VR Innovation Award.

Professor Samara is actively involved in European research networks, co-chairing the Developing Country Fellowship (DCF) Committee (ISSBD) and leading a Working Group in the COST project on Religious Identity, Bullying, and Wellbeing at School.

His current research continues to push the boundaries of technology-enhanced psychological interventions, particularly in the use of Virtual Reality (VR) for trauma treatment and resilience building among children and adolescents.
